Open discussion in evangelism

Instead of pushing our theology (or worse yet, dogma) to seekers, we should allow open discussion more often.
The point in "Jesus I never knew": Student says "I don't believe
in a god." Professor: "Tell me what kind of god you don't believe
in. I probably don't either." Then went on to talk about
Jesus.
The point there is that we will never come to agreement over abstract
and theological debates, but we could put things into focus by looking
at Jesus.
For instance, there may be argument surrounding the virgin birth, and
people can dream of many conjectures. Similarly for attempting to
explain all the other miracles. Willingness to discussion would
at least begin a dialog, to show that we are rational thinkers as well,
rather than simply mindless blind believers. |
