Summarize and Paraphrase exercise
Are you ready to give a 1-min (elevator) summary of your faith?  What is Christianity all about for your life?  How would you communicate that to a visitor at your church, whether through a community event or a Easter Service?

In the area of evangelism, here are various exercises and challenges to prepare us, for communicating to non-Christians.
1. How would you communicate what your Christian Life is all about?
We may want to paraphrase some of the most famous Bible verses, or to summarize well known spiritual wisdom:

  • We love, because we are first loved by God.
  • God love each of us so much, that He gave up His only Son, to suffer and die in our place, so that when we receive this reality and live accordingly, we no longer have to be burdened and suffer the consequences of all our darkness & shame & regrets, but start living triumphantly with endless joy.
  • As with love, knowing and experiencing God requires senses from the heart.
  • The Meaning of Life can only be found in Him.
  • Whatever else we devote our lives to, will only end up controlling us.
  • The sense of Good and Evil cannot be measured by science, nor originate by mere humanism arguments.
2. Summarize in single sentence some of the best works in Christian Apologetics, which holds the best argument and reasoning for our beliefs.

e.g.  How would you summarize each chapter of Tim Keller's book "Reasons for God", or CS Lewis' writings?

Remember: use word pictures, not abstract words.

3. How would you summarize what your church is all about?  i.e. Why should others join you?

Often, your church vision statement would be a great start:

NHF exists to behold and broadcast the majesty and mercy of God, ...

Or you can write a paragraph of what church life means to you:

We share together in the life-journey of experiencing the reality of God's love for each of us, through Christ's taking on the burden of our personal darkness & shame, liberating us to a life of inner joy & peace, filled with faith, hope and love.
