In preparation for NHF participation in the annual Asian American Heritage Festival, I arrange for the church library to have every recent book in this area. This is a highlight of some of these writings.
The whole thing started after someone recommended "More than Serving Tea", a collection of essays on AA Christian Women experiences from various Intervarcity staff workers in a leadership development conference. This is a book that all AA church leaders should browse through to get an idea of the female voice in the AA congregation.
From there, Amazon recommended a whole array of other related titles. The most illuminating one, Growing Healthy Asian American Churches, is also a collection of essays on various topics by different prominent leaders of the AA faith movement. Some memorable points on the characteristics of the AA culture- image of a household
- pursuit of excellence, high quality
- from 1st gen of shame-based to 2nd gen of grace-based faith
- relational lifestyle model for evangelism/discipleship
- need to allow for more personal and leadership development among female participants
- social justice and impact
Final summarizing chapter:
- AA church lacks the historical luggage that mainline denominations do, thus freedom to rediscover church and Christ from scratch, in an innovative and dynamic way
- poised to be the glue for the various parts of the Body of Christ, uniquely being able to host and invite all other denominations and local congregations together for events that can unify the churches
